COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT)

cog-triangle
  • When we THINK we will be judged or critisized when we go somewhere, we FEEL scared and anxious, which makes us ACT accordingly, like avoiding, withdrawing or making negative comments about ourself before someone else does
  • This form of therapy is based on the premise that our feelings and actions are directly connected to our thoughts
  • Based on this, if we learn to RECOGNIZE our unhelpful thoughts and assess the EVIDENCE for and against these thoughts, we can change how we feel and empower ourselves to act differently also

  • This approach informs my therapy, but is not used as a primary modality I offer as it is readily available in the community through Psychology. I recommend individuals seeking CBT specifically go to our Resources page for Psychologists I recommend who offer this approach.
