When I almost lost my battle with depression

Thanks to our Guest Writer this week, Sara S for this post and her story.

“It was 3 years ago today, that I almost lost my battle with depression.

I can’t believe it’s only been three years, it feels like a lifetime ago… Probably because it feels like a different life altogether.

Since then, I presented my research to a conference in the US (my first time ever out of Canada) and made an impression on an academic idol. I got my research published, got married to my best friend and had a wedding day that I will never forget, found a treasure of an employer and am doing meaningful work, and gave birth to the most incredible little human who has magnified happiness like I never knew possible.

I write this to say, if you need help, get help. There is no shame in needing help for mental health or otherwise. It would have been a shame if I had missed these past three years, and what’s still to come. I can tell you that it gets better, you just have to do the work even though you don’t think you’re worth it. One of these days you will realise how worthy you are”

no cry for help

Have a great week everyone! We all have our struggles, we don’t have to have it all figured out, we just need to get up one time more than we get knocked down!

Thanks again to Sara S for having the courage and willingness to share the truth of part of who she is!
